Happy Thursday!
Yesterday was my birthday. I was going to sit here and write an essay about loss, growth, and all the things I’ve learned in a year. Then, I realized I kind of touched on these things over the summer and we don’t need to rehash all of that. Although I’ll say this: Perhaps one of my childhood idols dying the day after my birthday last year was an omen of things to come for 26. A bit morbid, but hey, it was a tough year. Now, the only way forward is up!
Today’s newsletter is short, sweet, and free, although subscribe to the Yapper tier for full access to all Thursday newsletters. I want to note that, of course, the second I sent out Monday’s newsletter, I saw the video on everyone’s timelines: “Are Dan and Phil in a Relationship? The Truth.” If you’re confused about this newsletter’s subject line, it’s in reference to that. A recap below if you haven’t seen the news already. Although if you’re Very Online, I’m sure you have.
See you next week!

Four years in the making. One event that will change everything.
On November 13, beehiiv is redefining what it means to create online with their first-ever virtual Winter Release Event.
This isn’t just an update or a new feature. It’s a revolution in how content is built, shared, and owned. You don’t want to miss this.

Things I want to share with you
OG YouTubers Dan Howell (FKA danisnotonfire) and Phil Lester (AKA amazingphil) are a couple. In case you missed it, these longtime vloggers and best friends, long speculated to be dating, confirmed that they have, in fact, been together for the past 16 years. Today’s subject line honors Dan and Phil’s suggested headlines for this news. When the video dropped, every queer person who spent their teen years on YouTube in the 2010s logged back on to react to it. There are Dan and Phil fans you’d never even expect coming out of the woodwork.
The 46-minute video is actually a compelling, cautionary tale about parasocial relationships, the traumatic experience of feeling forced to come out, and the struggle to maintain privacy despite a demanding audience. A lot of people will say that they “knew.” But as Dan and Phil put it, no one really knew for sure and it was scary for them to go public with their relationship. Despite ups, downs, hiatuses, and pivots, Dan shared a sweet summation of their relationship: “What it is that we keep coming back to is that we are just more compatible with each other day to day than anyone we will ever meet.” After dropping that video, they’ve announced that they’re starting a podcast together. Great week to be a fan of Phan!Today marks one year since Liam Payne’s death. Since then, it seems like the other boys have had a bit of a healing journey with each other, especially Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson. Payne’s former partner Kate Cassidy shared some words about her grief journey over the past year ahead of the anniversary. Meanwhile, 5SOS paid tribute to Liam in a recent livestream.
Charlie Puth announced that he and his wife Brooke Sansone are having a baby in his new music video for his latest single “Changes.” As a Voicenotes stan, the new song is promising after feeling let down by the tracks on his last album Charlie. Perhaps marital bliss and impending fatherhood will produce some HITS! Then we can really declare that Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist.
Timothée Chalamet posted an acceptance speech (that paraphrased Gucci Mane) for his “White Boy of the Year” win at the First Annual Believe That Awards: “You can get lost in the Sauce, but without Sauce, you are lost.” That’s the energy I’m bringing into 27.
Britney Spears released a lengthy statement on X in response to some of the claims in her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s upcoming memoir, including remarks about her relationship to their sons.
The constant gaslighting from ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting. I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys.
Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to— #Britney Spears 🌹🚀 (#@britneyspears)

Nicki Minaj said that she is scrapping her previously announced album and retiring from music, saying, “Bye Barbz.” She blamed Jay-Z and Roc Nation, which is unsurprising if you’ve read any of her tweets in the past year. Unclear if she’s serious about quitting, but there’s no way, right?
I found this piece about far right, white supremacist streamer Nick Fuentes’ appeal among women very strange. I am not surprised that he might have female fans, considering that he seems to be very attractive to the Red Scare types. However, this so-called investigation isn’t one. There aren’t any full quotes from the apparent dozen sources consulted for the piece, which suggests that Fuentes fandom is mostly ironic among lefty women. The piece says there is one small, dedicated community of women on Tumblr dedicated to the streamer. I think it would be interesting to hear more about why they like him, considering we are in a moment online where women are getting radicalized through different, often more subtle pipelines. But the piece doesn’t get into detail about that Tumblr subculture. So what was the point?
Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS brand just launched fake bush thongs, which I think is stolen valor. They are completely sold out. If you want to capitalize on bushes coming back in vogue, grow one yourself, coward!
