Amid the AI slop plaguing the internet, the only beacon of light in this creatively desolate wasteland we call the internet are the fandoms. Who else but fans would have the creativity and joie de vivre to come up with a ship — relationship, for the uninitiated — as excellent as Regina George and Rodrick Heffley?
If your algorithms aren’t calibrated like mine, Regina x Rodrick (Rodrina?) edits, art, and fanfic have flooded TikTok, X, Instagram, Tumblr, and AO3 over the past couple weeks. Once you see the Mean Girls queen bee and Diary of a Wimpy Kid emo older brother together, it just makes sense.
You may be wondering, where did this seemingly random crackship come from? Rodrina came into this world from the mind of Monialynn, a 21-year-old artist who shares her work on social media.
Monialynn posted fanart of Regina and Rodrick to Instagram and TikTok on Oct. 11. Set to Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend,” the videos showed Rodrick filming and cheering on Regina at the winter talent show.
