Dashboard Confessions: Nesrin Danan
Plus an American pope (from Chicago!) and the latest James Charles drama

Hi everyone. Today, we have the second installment of Dashboard Confessions, my interview series talking to creatives whose interests and journeys are rooted in their teen years on Tumblr.
I talked to professional photographer, creator, and all-around it girl Nesrin Danan — who goes by the handle blackprints online. I talked to her after she went viral on TikTok with her Tumblr friends, which many, many people were obsessed with. Upgrade to the Yapper tier so you don’t miss our conversation.

Before she was a professional photographer, Nesrin Danan was the blueprint — or rather, the blackprint — for quality bloggers on Tumblr. Equipped with a DSLR, Danan explored her burgeoning interest in photography on her blog, capturing bright images of inspirational quotes, Starbucks cups, and other products that were very of the times.
In the subsequent years, Danan has photographed fashion weeks, touring musicians, brand events, and more. During New York Fashion Week this spring, she took a break from work to hang out with old Tumblr friends and posted a TikTok about it.
“Posting this for a niche group of people who were on Tumblr 2012-2014 and are curious to know if we’re still friends — we are (:” she wrote.
The video received 3.3 million views, as former Tumblr teens flocked to the comments to reminisce on old times and share their reverence for the ex-bloggers including Danan, Orion Carloto, Brandon Woelfel, and John Parvin McBride.
She later posted a follow-up discussing how she felt like Tumblr was the start of her career and how she made lifelong friends on the site. In an interview with Yap Year, Danan expanded on this, discussed her creative journey, and how the social media community has evolved since Tumblr. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
